With all of the holiday craziness behind us, let’s kick off 2024 with some great music and entertainment. Visit us in Nashville at the historic Ryman Auditorium or come to Kansas State University in Manhattan. The shows will be filled to the brim with music, humor and stories. You will hear one more time from Guy Noir, Mom, and Dusty and Lefty as well as get an update from the folks in Lake Wobegon.
Almost 50 years ago — on July 6, 1974 — author and humorist Garrison Keillor hosted the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, and the perennially popular weekly radio show remained on the air until July of 2016. The idea for APHC grew from a piece he wrote for The New Yorker magazine about the Grand Ole Opry’s final show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
The APHC 50th Anniversary Tour leads up to the half-century milestone in the summer of 2024. On January 11, Garrison and his rollicking troupe will be at the historic Ryman. And on January 13, they’ll be at McCain Auditorium on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan.
Joining them are singers Heather Masse and Christine DiGiallonardo, mandolin ace Sam Bush, fiddle maestro Stuart Duncan, innovative guitarist Bryan Sutton, and Chuck Mead and His Grassy Knoll Boys, with their exciting mix of honky-tonk, rockabilly, and roots-driven music. The Royal Academy of Actors (Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and sound-effects wizard Fred Newman) will be there, along with music director/keyboardist Richard Dworsky leading the band. What a show!
We would definitely entertain the thought of traveling to Nashville or maybe Kansas City were in not for us sailing the south Atlantic on those two dates. Nashville at the Ryman would be a treat and Kansas City is just a couple hours down the road from us. Maybe next time. RR
