speaking of parties...Today is Bob Dylan's 85th Birthday! We the community of Bob Dylan fans and scholars and dylanologists and even critics are celebrating! May you stay forever young, BOB! I'll join your party Garrison if you'll join ours ;)
I'm 85 and here in Florida I don't think I could assemble a group of 80-somethings for a party. Now if I take it down to 70's and stretch it for some who are in their 50's, I might have a chance. To some of them, even taking a drink seems beyond them. So, what you've said today is more a reminder of times past when creating a party group was not such a challenge. Your nostalgia provides some comfort in these dark times. My mainline church offers no sustenance as it avoids any direct comment whatsoever on the dark morality of our government. On this we could use some spiritual encouragement that might help us get our psyches through these times.
Thanks for reminding me about being 20 and dancing while my honey whispered the song brown-eyed-girl in my ear, oh, la la la la!! (Soon to be married in 1968.) You made me happy!
Yes a party, a real party, something to be proud of of, to take our minds off the horrible shit that passes for leadership and politics! The my way or the highway is so wrong, and so unchristian to boot! Let’s have a birthday of the greatest experiment of political freedom, a way where better than here! Our 250th sort of birthday has been stolen and sold to the highest billionaire bidder (bitter brittle little shits all!) I say we celebrate something…the margarita comes to mind, as does Buffet, the other Buffet, the great Jimmy…we all need a mental margarita and raise your glasses!
Land has always changed hands, but that doesn’t mean we should stop caring about how it changed hands or who got hurt, especially when descendants are still living with the effects of that trauma today. I grew up on the Navajo Indian reservation and witnessed this firsthand. Maybe it’s easier to be dismissive if you haven’t had that experience as well. While your comment is true, I think it’s possible to live in a space between being woke (in the derogatory sense rather than its original definition) and an acceptance of “might makes right”.
I agree with you about remembering the complete history of land changes. Eastern tribes were pushed West as land was settled, who then were pushed further into another tribes territory. It was all life changing!

That was mentioned in the Writer’s Almanac today.
You do good work
So glad you are with us and sharing your thoughts Garrison. I needed this today. I need to smile. Your comments always help. Thank you so much.

Fabulous…. Thank you for all the 80 year olds like me!
Kathy,
As an 80 yr old myself, we had the best music when we were young! Happy birthday Bob Dylan. And still love your music Van Morrison!!
Thank you. I always end up in tears, but they’re good tears.💕
I'm always in the mood for I'd rather be listening to you. Thanks for you and your great sharing about life.
OMG, I DO SO need a good party.

The Lakota took the same land from another tribe hundreds of years ago. SOS.

Fertility festival. So? Sounds organized to me.
You are a voice of good reason ❤️
The comment you heard before a ballet performance brought this to mind:
Being inspired to create includes acknowledgement for those whose previous
creations inspired newer ones. Acknowledgement is a 'thank you,' but a scolding
or a shaming is not part of that expression of thanks, and is altogether another
matter. But plagiarizing is creating with no thanks to anyone, taking credit for
other's creative efforts, and theft, pure and simple.
YUP! I KNOW THOSE SONGS TOO💕
Sounds like a great party, wish we were there!
