One cannot escape one’s upbringing. I’m not exactly sure how the message was conveyed, but we simply never complained about food or beverage. Even if it was terrible.

A $28 bowel of oatmeal will not feed the hungry; and I suspect in this Northern California town where a small bungalow goes for $1.8 million feeding the hungry is not a high priority issue. The local democratic likely does not reflect high diversity and the atmosphere does not promote inclusivity - very boring. I was privileged to be born in a town about 28 miles outside of Boston where in my youth I heard the agents jacked-up the price of real estate to dissuade the unwanted from moving in. That has changed thank God. Upon discharge from the Navy in ‘70, I escaped to So. Cal. to complete my education. Today, I’m retired and happily living in the mid-west - but sadly in a “red state.” But the blue bloods are making progress! Employment has taken me on an orbit from west back to east and circled into Central American where the neighbors welcomed us as we moved in with yummy casseroles. (Note: That was the first time we experienced such a greeting during our transcontinental moves.) Today, diversity and inclusion have made us happy campers; and a warm bowel of oatmeal topped with brown sugar can be purchased for $2.95.
