Most things I listen to do not find it appropriate to listen to my 80 years and sinking budget because I am not able to be a paid supporter. I find such peaceful joy in your aged work that brightens my corner.
As one you celebrated forty-three years ago in March 1982 on turning “forty while walking the beaches of Hawaii,” I treasure your voice.
You give me Hope and Faith in the world we face.
As one who uses wheelchair assistance when traveling in major airports, I share your thoughts and experiences as the attendants help me to stay focused and on track to my destinations. I celebrate them by asking how many miles they cover each day and by tipping them.
Yes, we have lived our lives and now can give back to honor those who follow.
This post is a 5 star in my book. I have never found fault in any of your work but some really just hit me right in my heart. Thank you Garrison for being such a true blue realist in beautiful recollections and cherished memories. You're a real and feeling human being who we can relate to. I dearly wish I could see you in person. I did however listen to A Prairie Home Companion on the weekends for years while working on a boring job. I continued to tune in every weekend even as I retired and missed your show terribly when your show was no more. So very happy to be able to recieve the substack and read and listen to your posts. Wishing you many more years of your stories, observations, recollections, opinions, all of it. Bravo!
Awesome advice so existential. Except that a brisk walk is not superseded by sidewalks and cars. My solution was to live in a small town near all of the essential goods and services. No car needed much. Buses are good sightseeing and safer for a guy pushing 80.
I adore your writing and performing mostly because of how you can find the good in people and their intentions. I feel very sorry that so many people were fooled by the orange dictator, and that you have to confront that while trying to entertain them. It is truly sad, and I hear your frustration. The “news” programs do not report on his actions in a way that improves the knowledge of its listeners. It feels like many of them are still fooled, or they are enjoying the ease he affords them to submit to their darker sides. In either event, it is lack of information and self knowledge that plagues them. These people might have been enlightened and coaxed into looking at themselves by their pastors in the past. I hate that today there are many pastors who have forgotten the teachings of Jesus. Namely, the teachings regarding loving your neighbor and welcoming the foreigner. I think that you might be able to squeeze those teachings into your work instead of hitting them head on about their mistake. You do this already of course. Don’t feel like you’ve had to give up. I don’t think you have.
Because Garrison and millions have been fooled and lied to about our President. I am glad he has given up on the farce but had to get one more dig in. The world is waking up to the spiritual needs of the people and guess who is giving it to them? The orange man. How will you feel when you find out that Trump has a skin disfigurement that he covers?will you still call him orange man? And although far from perfect, like all of us, what will you say when millions of souls are saved and millions proclaim Christ is King? You think a real dictator would share the throne? Thank you Garrison for giving up on the bashing of our President. I guess the battle hymn of the republic got you, too.
If you think Trump is good for Christians, you are so sadly misguided, mislead, and plain wrong. Trump does what he does to enrich only himself and gives Christians a very strange kind of lip service to that end. The man encourages hate of the “other”, your neighbors, and foreigners which is exactly opposite of the teachings of Jesus.

For the intellectuals, the first is the birth out of the infinite into the finite; the second is the birth from the finite into the infinite.
For the devotees and mystics, the first is the birth from God’s being into a human being; the second birth is from the human being into God’s being.
Our grandmothers must have been related in the same way that genes swirl together and are spit out like constellations ... with family who scatter but always show up at dinner time.
My grandma Dora worked hard all her life and lived to be 87 years old. She had poor vision in her later years and I wish I could have spent more time with her as she grew older.
