I sought out your words this morning, hoping to make sense of reality. As expected, you provide evidence that realized life in political circles is nonsense. Popularity contests make for ugly contestants.

You should write more of this type of explicit political commentary. It's SOOOOOOOOO refreshing to read a piece that openly and bluntly says what needs to be said in our current situation. Thank you.

Please continue to write about this! Don't make a foolish promise that you won't do it. We're counting on you to speak your thoughts. After all, your thoughts are why roughly a gazillion people listen to what you say. Respectfully.

Me too. Like most other people in the world, I have always loved Garrison Keillor, but now I love him more. This column is perfect and strong and powerful and so important!

I’m a long-time fan of yours, and this column solidifies that once again. Sometimes we have to say the ugly out loud, to acknowledge and verify what most of us are feeling and thinking. To confirm that such an egregious breach of social contract as that assassination and the accompanying assassination attempt are so wholly grotesque and evil that we speak out against them in *no uncertain terms*.

Sometimes the only way to speak truth seems “ugly”, but that is because the truth *is* ugly and we are simply naming it.

Thank you for boldly stating truth.

And as an Australian I’m delighted to hear you calling out The Prime Maggot. Comes out from a loathsome family, and the joke in Australia was always to say he should have been drowned at birth. We were delighted when he moved to the US, but if we’d known…

He was evil always, but it’s clear he is also in Putin’s pocket. It all seems to be some horrible revenge against the States, to try to destroy it. I am SO sorry. And then the one chance we had to stop him, here in Britain with the Levison enquiry, Cameron let him get away with it. Aaargh!

Please don’t apologise for calling it out, dear Garrison! We can’t see the light if we don’t recognise the dark…

Glad to see the toxicity of Rupert Murdock called out. He is not alone, of course, but clearly is responsible for creating what my son refers to as elderporn…. The constant stream of grievance, intolerance and fear mongering that has driven wedges between family members, communities and our country.

Elderporn : Absolutely!

So many wedges have been driven.

The ugly undercurrent of racism, which has always existed but had been repressed, has been made OK to be on full display.

Yes the Rupert is the Maggot Queen, the source of the hate and terror…please note the large number of his maggot spawn who are in the White House leaderships…HegsDeath among the worst! So much crazy you’d think of all the BSC hires, the Gnome, WTF Kennedy…and the worst, by far Stephen Miller as part of a pair of dis-Steve’s!

Yes, Bowel gas and anger, bloviating and disservice, that’s all good…make a call to express remorse for his role?

NEVER!

So what to do to begin cleaning house?

Encourage Gates to buy FAUX! And hire real journalists and experts who are experts!

Great sign the other day when at the very least 5,000,000 people took to the streets to begin the cleanup in aisle 47.

No Faux-King way! And lots of bleach…

I agree. Would you really wish that a very, very mentally ill person would shoot themselves? Prison, yes, of course. But would torture in solitary confinement really make you feel better, or make any sense as punishment to that very mentally ill person? Who is the person who is really responsible for encouraging mentally ill people to shoot Democrats, or anyone he doesn't like?

I was surprised by this writing. You stated the TRUTH but there are many people doing that. Your unique gift is to pull us aside from the ugliness for a moment to glimpse what used to be. Our memories help us to see that there still is a little bit of good around us to feed our souls. You help us to open our eyes to the opportunities to refocus our gaze. Thank you for sharing your thoughts eaxh day voth the kight and the dark. Stay well.

I'm sorry, Paula, but there are not enough people stating the truth. There are too many tiptoeing arounds the lies, to say nothing about those telling lies. Rupert Murdoch is craven, our president got his start with the Birther lies, and Jan 6 was all about lies.

Thanks Garrison. I agree with everything you said. You told the truth. If that is ugly then sometimes the truth is ugly.

I still have not gotten over the last election. I am so disappointed that American voters went to the polls and voted for Rupert and Donald's America. I like to think of America as a good, well-meaning country. But this is a real disappointment.

Donald is all bluster and brag and finger pointing, name-calling, making things hard for people who have no political power (immigrants, transgender folks, and so forth), and feeding his own vanity. Donald loves to be the center of attention. All of this to do about Iran is largely a vanity project to make Donald the center of attention.

People say that Donald is doing what he was elected to do. Do you mean that Americans deliberately went to the polls and voted for this chaos and nastiness?

I try not to think of politics and what is going on in the news. It is so depressing.

Sometimes I listen to some old PHC shows to hear some good music and forget current events.

You had some great musicians on that program -- Norman Blake, Johnny Gimble, Chet Atkins, Stuart Duncan, Sam Bush, and many, many more fine people.

Thanks again.

Garrison hit the nail on its head with his remarks in re Rupert from Australia. He and right-wing media are responsible for a lot of the hype, hysteria, and lies and for our current politics. But I don't see it ending anytime soon.

I encounter people who say that they get all of their news from FOX. I am glad that I am old. Are we entering a period when common sense, decency, education, rule of law, respect for truth, and other responsible activities are being overwhelmed by the hateful, cynical, and so forth? It would seem so.

It could be worse - they could be getting all their news from Newsmax, which is Faux Newspeak on steroids.

Then I hope that I never hear Newsmax. Much of Fox is "intense" and I don't like to listen to it. Of course, a lot of what they say is not true or is partially true and they take it from there to add their take.

I don't know if you ever heard Rush Limbaugh. When I first heard him, I thought it was a comedy routine.

Best wishes.

It's amazing how often liberals--or "libtards" in the vernacular of rightwing invective--are accused of disregarding facts and truth without a single citation of one of these "facts" or "truths." Suppose Copernicus had been asked to support his theory that the earth revolved around the sun or Newton his theory that gravity keeps the moon in orbit about the earth and they'd have responded, "Well, anyone featherbrained idiot with a couple of brain cells can see that those are fundamental truths."
