Keep singing and inviting us to sing along...Many of us may struggle, however, to find the words. I am just beginning my journey through Lamentations in the Bible...perhaps we can four part harmony that refrain.
GK, Thank you for coming to LaGrange of all places. My wife and I drove from Auburn and were joined by my oldest best friend whom I’ve known for 67 years. Your energy, presence of mind, and love for people are good as new. I know. I’ve been listening to PHC for 40 years. Sir, you are a National Treasure, unlike the monster in office. Peace and blessings, Wells+
Oh Garrison, you are such a treasure!! Thank you. My husband and I are looking forward to seeing you at the Town Hall for your Christmas show as we have many many times. I have to hold on to the little shards of gold in these dark times. You are one; and there is Borowitz, Michael Moore. I can lose myself in poetry and fiction; and of course “the peace of wild things”. Thank you for being you!
"What they did to the nation is shameful but at least they're capable of human feeling." Yes to shameful but human feeling not so much, in harmony or not.
GARRISON, YOU ARE A "PIED PIPER" WHO MOSTLY SITS AND DRINKS COFFEE AND EXCHANGES GOOD THOUGHTS THAT FUELS US ALL...YOU INCLUDED THEREFORE.
HUMAN DIALOG IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT IN LIFE....WELL, MOST OF IT.....LISTENING IS KEY TOO. YOU'RE A GENIUS AT BOTH AND PASSING THEM ON TO US WHO FOLLOW.
LIKE MY AIUNT BRIDGET FROM SASKATCHEWAN, HER STORIES WERE ABUNDANT AND TOLD STORIES IN SUCH A WAY THAT OUR EARS POINTED LIKE OUR SPRINGER SPANIE DID BACK THEN. BAD GRAMMAR , BUT ONE JUST CAN'T NOT LISTEN.
YOU'RE THE TOPS....GOD BLESS YOU! AND REMEMBER THE WAY YOU SHARED OUR THANKSGIVING PRAYERS: "MORE WE DO NOT NEED."
I have a friend who frequently posts in all caps. I've known him from childhood and I thought he posted that way because he didn't know how to type. That was reinforced by his sometimes posting in all lower case. I hadn't considered that it might be aggressive. I just thought he struggled with keyboards and incompetence is still my first thought when I see all caps.
I had the pleasure of attending e your Atlanta performance last Friday and was also moved by the audience singing The Star Spangled Banner and America The Beautiful. It was a unifying moment after such a divisive election. Full disclosure, I am on the opposite end of the spectrum from you politically. In fact I attended the show with family members who fall on both sides of this great divide. Although I feel strongly about my political beliefs, I am aware that this emotion is shared by you commie libs. 😁 To me it is one of life's great mysteries how people that I admire so much can have such diametrically opposing political views as compared to mine. This includes the afore mentioned family members, close friends, intelectuals such as yourself and many of the Catholic priest who celebrate the Masses I attend on Sunday's. I am greatful for the opportunity your show provided for a public forum where both sides could come together to acknowledge that we are not enemies but are fellow Americans who share a great love for this country. A sincere thank you and I wish you many more years of health and blessings!
Thanks for coming to the show, George, and I now hold you responsible for what happens to America. You own the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court, and you have Elon Musk with his 600 billion dollars. I hope you don't destroy what you claim to love. Meanwhile, we Marxist-Communists are in the clear, free to enjoy the world and hope it lasts for awhile.
Throughout my career in the pulp and paper industry I watched devout Christians come to work as managers, check their Chrisitan principles at the door, and then not treat people with the dignity and respect they deserve. I am not saying the entire pulp and paper industry was like this, but that was what I observed at the mills I worked at. This puzzled me.
I am now working in another industry now, only this industry is close to a very progressive city. As a result a lot of the managers are very politically progressive. But when they come to work, they check their principles at the door and do not treat people well. I am puzzled again.
Whats up with this? What is this phenomonon?
One final question. Using behaviors promoted by the Episcopal Church, how does your response above rank? What would Jesus's response to George Williams comment look like?
Just some humble observations. See you in Galveston.
One of life's greatest mysteries is how people that I admire so much, and in some cases love, can have such diametrically opposing political views as compared to mine.
But I am an engineer. What can we build with that thought?
Thank you, Sandi McIntyre, for your perfect response. My computer no longer permits me to show "like" or that "heart = like" display, so these regular old words of "like" for your comment will have to suffice.
Fascist supporters as fellow Americans? Those who celebrate overthrowing the government as fellow Americans? It is easy to imagine those "fellow Americans" breaking bread with Nazis coming off a night of breaking the store windows of Jewish businesses in Germany in the 1930s as "fellow Germans." No, one must draw the line and it is drawn.
You were in Ames, Iowa some years ago (who can remember?). I went to the show with friends and saw you in the hotel restaurant after. We were already eating but saw you talking to a young girl who told you she was sorry, but the kitchen had already closed. I left my table and told her who you were (she was about twenty and had no idea!) and they should open the kitchen, etc. ( live in Iowa but am originally from New York). They did open the kitchen and I think you were embarrassed — but did get to eat!!
You are indeed a treasure, Garrison. Thank you for all you do and staying with us in these dark times. Your writing and humor has such deep wisdom, kindness and civility. You speak the truth simply and so eloquently. I hope the members of your Georgia audience who voted for this "evil grandpa", as you described him, felt at least a little shame as they listened to you speak and sang that song with you about the survival of our country and the hope that our flag will still fly over the land of the free and the home of the brave. The hope they have gain a little understanding of the tragedy of what they've done, and the hope for the democracy and freedom our flag represent, are very much in doubt. It will take continued bravery to stand against the lies, cruelty and what is to come with with this despicable man, his administration, their complete control of all branches of our government and the frightening blueprint of Project 2025. We're quickly heading into 2025. I know we need to continue to try to send love, kindness, empathy and good works into the world as you do, and as Harris and Walz would have done.
I woke to this wonderful post after a sleepless night of deep sorrow about the election and concern over what the coming years will bring to our country - to my grandchildren - and to the world. Falsehood did indeed win and will yield great power as well as great cruelty. I already see it slipping into the comments to your posts. I can see the delight they take in being cruel. I see it in the cruel comments to the very few others I read. It's all so heartbreaking.
Your writing, poetry, shows and news from Lake Wobegon are so comforting in these times. I grew up in Lake Wobegon, too, as many of us did. To read the news is like visiting family and friends from childhood. Thank you for the lovely memories.
I've disconnected from all news and reading much of anything for a while, as it's just too heartbreaking. But I love reading anything you send and have sent. I keep your books close and treasure them. Your poetry and all your books are wonderful. And "Homegrown Democrat" explains beautifully why Democrats have become the conservative protectors of the Constitution, the rule of law, morality, empathy and kindness. It rings more true than ever, even though you wrote it in the years of Bush that don't begin to compare to today. Thank you with my deepest gratitude. :)
Not a Canadian, and I hope you are nowhere near me, so I don’t have to go out of my way to avoid you. I hold you in the deepest contempt, for your lack of principles, conscience or empathy.
I’ll tell you what is sad- that you have permanently revealed yourself to be a person for whom good character is of no importance, and for whom the ends will always justify the means. I hold you in contempt now and forever.
I loved that you enjoyed visiting with the woman who stopped by to chat and then apologized. I also appreciated what was a reminder to me of the days of childhood when people visited. I do remember and, wasn't it nice!
I loved "visiting," too. My Dad was raised by his grandparents after his mother died when he was 7, and an aunt and uncle still lived in the old homeplace. They raised 18 children who lost their parents one way or another. We often went there on Sundays, and I listened to stories. I loved the smells. Sometimes other relatives popped in, bringing more stories. I liked getting a drink in the kitchen from the bucket, with the dipper that hung on the wall. The table in front of the stove was where Dad did his homework as a young boy. I have it, and it reminds me of those times. I like to think Dad's spirit is in it.
I agree that what they did to the country was shameful. Thanks for saying so despite recent outbursts from certain commenters. As if their adulation for their cult leader weren't enough, some of them have used these pages to showcase their misogyny, racism, and/or belief that their "Republican Jesus" should impose their personal religious strictures on everyone. No matter what happens, the world will always know the truth about the liar-cum-rapist-in-chief-elect and how he came to power, both times. Unless of course the Internet actually isn't forever and Putin, Xi, Kim Jong-un, Bolsonaro, Orbán, Lukashenko, Trump and Elon Musk can figure out how to overwrite or block it, in which case people might not remember after a couple of centuries. Those offended by our pesky rejection of fascism should consider migrating their online personae non gratae to Trumpolini's own Truth Social, where every lie is automatically a Truth™ and every shared conspiracy theory is a re-Truth™. It's so convenient! ¡Viva the ghost of Hugo Chávez!

Don't you start capitalizing words for emphasis, John, the way that You Know Who does. Thanks for coming to LaGrange. I loved that night.
I meant in no way to bring to mind any thought of the Orange Monster. Still, I can’t seem to use the lower case alone in your literary presence.
no, i am stopping right now.

I promise the Town Hall show will be a happy event, start to finish.
I miss the "visiting" of my childhood. Thanks for bringing up those memories, Garrison.
Thank you for all you do, write, speak and sing. Your stories inspire mine. Keep weaving Garrison!

PLEASE PERSIST
Tom, Nice note, but please turn off the all caps. It’s widely considered shouting on-line and is highly annoying. 😉
Ditto.

It's "aforementioned," "intellectuals," "grateful," "priests," and "Sundays." I do not consider Fascist supporters fellow Americans.

I am curious, sir, if you would personally hire Matt Gaetz to represent you in a court of law?
I love you man!

The election may be over but something tells me it will live on in your mind for the rest of your life. Kind of sad…
Otherwise where would you take your trolling?
How’s the weather in Canada? Perhaps you and Martin are neighbors? 😂😂😂😂
