You are indeed a treasure, Garrison. Thank you for all you do and staying with us in these dark times. Your writing and humor has such deep wisdom, kindness and civility. You speak the truth simply and so eloquently. I hope the members of your Georgia audience who voted for this "evil grandpa", as you described him, felt at least a little shame as they listened to you speak and sang that song with you about the survival of our country and the hope that our flag will still fly over the land of the free and the home of the brave. The hope they have gain a little understanding of the tragedy of what they've done, and the hope for the democracy and freedom our flag represent, are very much in doubt. It will take continued bravery to stand against the lies, cruelty and what is to come with with this despicable man, his administration, their complete control of all branches of our government and the frightening blueprint of Project 2025. We're quickly heading into 2025. I know we need to continue to try to send love, kindness, empathy and good works into the world as you do, and as Harris and Walz would have done.

I woke to this wonderful post after a sleepless night of deep sorrow about the election and concern over what the coming years will bring to our country - to my grandchildren - and to the world. Falsehood did indeed win and will yield great power as well as great cruelty. I already see it slipping into the comments to your posts. I can see the delight they take in being cruel. I see it in the cruel comments to the very few others I read. It's all so heartbreaking.

Your writing, poetry, shows and news from Lake Wobegon are so comforting in these times. I grew up in Lake Wobegon, too, as many of us did. To read the news is like visiting family and friends from childhood. Thank you for the lovely memories.

I've disconnected from all news and reading much of anything for a while, as it's just too heartbreaking. But I love reading anything you send and have sent. I keep your books close and treasure them. Your poetry and all your books are wonderful. And "Homegrown Democrat" explains beautifully why Democrats have become the conservative protectors of the Constitution, the rule of law, morality, empathy and kindness. It rings more true than ever, even though you wrote it in the years of Bush that don't begin to compare to today. Thank you with my deepest gratitude. :)

Oh Garrison, you are such a treasure!! Thank you. My husband and I are looking forward to seeing you at the Town Hall for your Christmas show as we have many many times. I have to hold on to the little shards of gold in these dark times. You are one; and there is Borowitz, Michael Moore. I can lose myself in poetry and fiction; and of course “the peace of wild things”. Thank you for being you!
