Amen and what a world we are living in today. I am taking comfort in being 85 and , as you have said, I can detach and hope that my grandchildren will survive this. Sure does remind me of 30’s Germany.

Sad political rant from a leftist. I liked the prior Garrison. Perhaps tomorrow’s column can joyfully recap four years of a demented president who we were lied about for four years, or censorship on a grand scale, or forced vaccinations in violation of medical ethics, or . . .

Jim, Your comment saddens me more that angers me. Not sure which doctor you called and got a repot that Biden was suffering from dementia. Last time I heard him speak, (only a few weeks ago) he was sane and still showing empathy toward his fellow human beings.

Jim, read what Garrison Keillor wrote. You are supporting a fascist regime. You are a member of a cult. Our host has also written about "the heart of the illness in this country, the willingness to believe what you know is not true in order to think more of yourself and less of other people." You should stop going along with it. You know that it is wrong.

You’re a classic right wing nut job who has obviously drank red kool aid for decades. Fox News makes people stupid, unable to actually think. All they can say is “What about….?” I honestly feel for you folks, you seem to actually believe that Trump is capable of good. He’s not.

Definitely we have freedom with technology in travel. I’m sharing this one with my kids (who ridiculed me for years spending Saturday evenings with you singing and telling stories). Their kids are growing up in the weird world we fuss about and they just think it’s normal. I appreciate your visits always.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. You forget our President has authorized the removal of 8 colorful dyes from our Cheetos and Fruit Loops, which will certainly help to settle the ants in their pants of American children. Moms are cheering this deal from sea to sea. And, he's attending the funeral of Pope Francis, whereas President Obama blew off the funeral of Pope Benedict. The man may not tell jokes, but he is plenty funny. He's obviously very kind to children, as seen in numerous clips of him with children, including his own Grands, and children he doesn't know. A man who is loving around kids is basically a Good Guy, no matter what you think.

Who is "the man?" You cannot possibly be describing Tramp, are you? A man who compels the courts to cut off food aid and possibly social security? "Very kind" is not an apt description of our resentful and punishing leader.

He said he was “looking forward “ to the funeral. Who says that?

Also, if the cheering Moms didn’t want to feed their kids bad stuff they could have just not bought it. Cheetos and Fruit Loops are not basic nutrition.

If you are seeing a “Good Guy”, you need to clean your glasses. I don’t recall seeing him with kids. Or, more importantly, with dogs. I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like animals.

Martha, your comment showcases a very troubling lack of brain usage on your part. You are deep in the clutches of a dangerous cult. Garrison Keillor has written about "the heart of the illness in this country, the willingness to believe what you know is not true in order to think more of yourself and less of other people." You shouldn't keep being a part of it. Deep down you know very well that it is wrong.

LOVING AROUND KIDS🤣

Trump shows children a card depicting the Butler assassination attempt at the Easter Egg Roll. And he had a sharpie so he was signing them for the children.

The card also included text stating the date of the attempted assassination and captions reading, "Trump assassination attempt" and "Fight to save America 'Stand Strong'":

Per shower head flow and by association 1.6 (and some now 1.28) gallons per flush...it all started in your city.

The low flow toilet revolution in America started in your city. Absent the development of low flow toilets, NY would've been out of water well over a decade ago. Those little ponds one drives by up in the Catskills are your water supply. Look at them, and ponder the lunacy of using potable water to flush away your finished product. Yes, the first models didn't work well, which can be blamed on lots of stuff including the dietary proclivities of folks that don't seem to understand water or where it comes from.

Same with shower heads. It's got nuthin' to do with pressure; pressure is what the city provides and it's about 40psi or thereabouts which is fine. It's about GPM...gallons per minute, which if one gets a decent shower head at Le Depot De Maison for about $15, you can contribute to the sustainability of your city.

Fearless leader doesn't understand either fixture. He's so full of fecal material, OF COURSE a standard toilet can't handle his discharge. Rumor has it that he also stinks and farts a lot, so OF COURSE he doesn't like a shower with anything less than car wash capabilities.

Save water, save yourself.

I love the nostalgic escapism. I was reminded of being a kid riding in the back seat of our pink and gray Dodge with my family driving around our small Southern town to look at the newest houses recently built. Sometimes, if we were lucky, we'd see the Goat Man in his wagon with his dozen goats. We'd always stop & my parents would chat with him and give him several dollars to help feed his entourage.

Linda, don't be daft. Garrison Keillor is not talking about politics, and common sense should tell you that podcasters lack the money and other resources that are necessary to adequately report the news. Our host has written about "the heart of the illness in this country, the willingness to believe what you know is not true in order to think more of yourself and less of other people." You shouldn't keep being a part of it. Deep down you know very well that it is WRONG.

This is a good conversation. It touches me in all the complexities — getting in the car and taking a drive, happy to be told by a voice when to turn left, where the traffic is backed up. Not thinking about the headlines or letting all the noise overwhelm. And there’s the other part— sitting at the kitchen table w your love and trying to make sense of things. I’m a writer, too, thanks to Garrison Keillor. For years I wrote for young people— you never get over that and I’m glad. I’m glad your soul has room for so many journeys, Garrison — good and bad. I share your wistfulness, but I’m grateful for how you weigh in on the messes. Holding both in our hands these days is no small thing.

I remember when calculators were the new technology. At first it was the rich kids that got them. But the prices dropped quickly and they started to show up in everyone's hands.

The responses of various groups to this technology was interesting. Schools baulked at their use initially, and you still had to do your math manually, and of course SHOW YOUR WORK! The engineers and scientists I knew jumped onto the new technology, but I still saw a lot of slide rules in pockets. And technology marched on. Nobody uses a slide rule anymore, and calculators are used freely in our schools. Although the calculators the kids use now are much more like computers than the calculator I used to get my college degrees.

And so now google tells me where to turn left, and where to turn right when driving. I look at my cell phone and think, what if the cell towers go down? What if somebody jams the cell phone transmission waves? How will I get to Braselton, Georgia from Southern Mississippi to drive my '72 Porsche 914 at Road Atlanta if my cell phone does not work? I know, if my cell phone does not work I will probably have some more urgent needs. But should I keep an atlas in the car just in case? Or should I just trust that the Goog will always be there to direct me and make my modern life possible?
