Yes! To this Happy Man’s post. Hip hip hooray. I’m with you and after reading your post I would encourage others to then watch the History Channel’s new Abraham Lincohn documentary. Times were tough then yet we the people prevailed by the hardest.
Write and rant on, Mr Keillor

Mr. Keillor, you sent this low curveball over the fence. I feel that you are spot-on with your column comments today. Stay healthy and continue to keep us informed. All the best.
The Trump Party will do what it will do: the column was directed at Democrats. They need to turn to local elections, rebuild from the ground up, run for school board and city council, and learn how to build a community rather than change the world. The swing toward madness in November , along with the Supremes, will change the country for a long time to come. But we can still educate our children.
It is interesting (and tragic) that your thoughts would not have been viewed as controversial two generations ago. That some will view them as such today is likely a measure of the depths to which we have fallen as a society. I'm grateful for your call to action, directed to those willing to hear and capable of understanding. The accuracy of your approach is confirmed by the action of those working to restrict voting to only those likely to share their own views.
Right on Garrison! Even as a gunowner myself - but not one who needs one to be a man or who carries one on his hip in public - I couldn't agree with you more. Like you, I grew up in the Mpls suburb of Golden Valley at a time when we didn't have to worry about a shooter at every corner. I could ride the bus downtown, by myself, at 11 years old and roam around, go to the planetarium and museum and buy a soda. A fun adventure for less than a dollar. But today, as an adult, I'm a little worried even in the rural area I live. I hope we can come together before it all breaks apart.
Do you really think we should look to politicians to instill character in our children? They are a reflection of us - for better or worse. Not the folks in DC, the statehouse or city hall.
This sounds like the beginning of an argument that would attempt to justify the election of morally bankrupt "leaders." That would be sad and un-American kind of argument.
Hmmmm. Streets safe in progressive cities??? We have children who have had to relocate from Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco because they are tired of not being able to walk safely on their streets, their vehicles getting vandalized because they thoughtlessly locked their car doors, having to install high-end security cameras in the hope of being able to safely avoid a home invasion and still be able to order on-line, etc.etc. Those are progressive cities and our kids have grown out of their “progressiveness.” They are moving to imperfect, but”red” areas. That is the reaping that has been sown in spite of taxes that are confiscatory. It breaks my heart for them. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we know our neighbors, are free to leave home without door locks, and even with a Democrat governor, are able to enjoy all of creation while keeping watch for the common good.
I agree that progressives have avoided this issue and need to step up and address reality. Ideology is no substitute for civil order. Violent crime is felt terribly by working-class people who haven't the means to escape and progressives need to address this and not just preach.
Ah, you speak the truth my Episcopalian brother! Or as they say: amen, amen!
Negativity is becoming of you. This column will rival Orwell's "1984" in apocalyptic tone. The second "Civil War" can fellow. Bring on the darkness.

Preach it, brother! We have nothing to lose but MAGA-head tyranny!

And what if there are no angry rebuttals? I hope you will not let that deter you.

As Shakespeare wrote in The Tempest: “Hell is empty and all the devils are here” if it be so that the orange one would win in 2024. Let it not be so.
Thank you for letting Trump live in your head rent free. He's the landlord you deserve.
HMMM?
Hmmm is right, wow.

Nice piece.
Love this!

Progress at the local level? I wish it were so, but that ignores the GOP gerrymandering that has been going on now for 20+ years.
Well said. Although the future looks rather bleak at present.
