What’s wrong with “displays of outrage (I) haven’t experienced.”I’m with you on the spirit of what you try to say. I find it unusual you come up lacking. I don’t have to be raped in a department store to feel, and or express outrage at such an unthinkable horror. I don’t have to be a woman to experience outrage at a Supreme Court that is courting and facilitating the destruction of our democracy by trashing “settled law” to use their words. I respect you mightily, and I cherish my memories of A Prairie Home Companion.

How are you doing today they ask, "fantastic", I always reply, setting into motion the brain to comply and direct the rest of me to feel, "fantastic". rr

Here's one that Robert Palmer made familiar:

"Simply Irresistible.'

It can be applied to both the speaker and the hearer.

Lovely !

The response to ' How are you ? ' is is often ' Good thanks ' down here in NZ ..but one of my work colleagues responds ' Not bad ' ... 😞 I prefer the former .. and now have stopped asking the question .. I greet her in a different manner and feel better for it ! 😊

My response is always “pretty good”. Or sometimes, depending on who it is “much better than you”. Keep writing.

If we libs, leaning toward moderates, don't get all bent out of shape for the horrors of the world, who will? I'm a volunteer of the first order, adopted two kids who would not have enjoyed the lives they now have had I and my wife not done that. We were legal guardians to three others, siblings. They are all doing well in the world. Yet, we libs leaning toward moderates, get angst filled with some of the news we are confronted with daily. Trump drives us over the edge from time to time, so we give money and support to Biden - although I think he should step aside. So, I don't often disagree, but this time I do. There is still room for an full on rage about what happens around us. Oh, and I'm not bad, thanks.

I like what you say except i’m full on w/backing Biden STILL. Otherwise we get the 🍊child rapist among other things. He has assembled a superb team that has helped push thru good policies for us. Kamala helps him. He is still our best answer, I think. 🤔 thanks for sharing..

Dear Garrison

Are there any tickets left to your show in Boothbay Harbor? I just realized you are appearing there on August 8. Your friend and a person who made every effort to be as vociferous as possible when MPBN moved The Writer's Almanac to Maine Classical which was only available on the Internet which meant the places in Maine that have no Internet were out of luck. I wrote this in 2016. Just wondering!

A Million Miles More: Garrison Keillor's Long Run is now live on PRX!

Susan:

The “events” page on garrisonkeillor[dot]com ( https://www.garrisonkeillor.com/schedule/ ) leads to

the following page at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor ( https://boothbayoperahouse.com/event/garrison-keillor-tonight/ )

so, alas, it looks like the show is sold out.

My response to 'How are you?' "Never better" I reply, ''except for that one time in the 60s. I don't recall the occasion, myself, but I've been told I was exceptional. So, I take their word for it and uselessly try to recall that moment.

May you continue enjoying your city walks, and not be hit in the head with a bat by some “underprivileged” person.

My typical response is, "Better than I deserve." I've worked hard to get where I am in life, but I would be a fool not to note that I'm a healthy white American man raised on a farm, and a doctor's kid to boot. I married a terrific woman, also a veterinarian, a woman who understands men as animals and gave us three great kids. I won life's lottery. Among the large animal guys in vet school (almost 50 years ago) we had a standard parting salutation: "Don't get any on ya." But of course if you do anything of significance, if you love, you will. Thanks for diving into all of it, Garrison.
