I know that the Pigeon Patrol ploy is a comic device, which is pretty funny but seriously those who are helping collapsed birds, sometimes their injury is due to an infection particularly West Nile Virus which is still around in North America. The CDC reported cases are mostly located on the western part of our country but there are still cases reported on the east coast. My suggestion. when tending to injured wildlife use protective gear before handling them. This isn't funny but I thought I'd add it to the comments.

My dad was a bird lover; took me for long walks from the time I could walk, pointing them out to me and identifying them as we went along. He kept Roger Tory Peterson’s life list, very excited every time he could check off a bird he had not seen before. He also had a knack for rescuing birds (and fowl). I came downstairs one morning rubbing my eyes and a Canada Goose hissed at me and scared the hell out of me. It had a broken wing which he wrapped, put him in a box with a space cut out for his head and neck and food and water he could reach down and eat. Every night he changed the padding in the box so it wouldn’t be sitting in its own filth. He named him Silly. When the time came, we drove an hour away to a preserve in Quogue where he could live out a happy, peaceful life even though he could no longer fly. He rescued many other birds and animals, but my favorite was a Robin he saved. When it was time to release him he did. But every time my dad would go out into the backyard, the bird would fly over to him and perch on his shoulder.

My father invited a potential client to the house to review samples of his work. (He was an industrial designer.) Dad suggested they sit out on the patio because it was a beautiful day and thought it might be nice to have a view of the bay. They sat down and the Robin flew over from a nearby pine tree and landed on my father’s shoulder. The man said “You’ve got the job” and they shook hands and closed the deal.
