Oh dear, Mr. Keillor. I hope, if you ever read my comments, then you know I adore you and applaud that you speak your mind about the horrors of "Uncle Don", his administration and GOP congress that does his bidding. However, I am going to have to be stern with you for a moment. You skipped the NYC primary because you thought Cuomo "had it in the bag"???? Really???? How on earth do you think upsets and underdogs winning happen??? By everyone coming out and voting, that's how. I don't know where you live but I know it's on the Upper West Side and there was early voting at the Museum of Natural History which I imagine might not be all that far from you. Not voting, not acceptable. Also, you list the old men who need to step aside and let the young generation step in. Yes. Sort of. But you include Bernie, so NO. Bernie is out there, as he has been all his life, campaigning and fighting for the same kind of policies that Zohran is promising. Bernie is old chronologically but ever-young in his beliefs, efforts and voting record. So please check your blanket ageism at the door and next time VOTE.

I love Mr. Keillor but thank you Kate for calling out that painful statement of “not voting because I thought he had it in the bag” . That tainted the entire article for me.

Sorry, disagree & take offense with your lecturing, hectoring, holier than thou tone. Garrison was not the only one who didn’t vote, he’s just more honest than most. Mamdani would be the first to read this brilliantly written piece graciously -: try learning from his loving and inclusionary politics. I sure will.

Where is that LOVE IT button?!?!? Like just doesn't cut it.

Keep up the good works, Mr Keillor. We need you and the rest of the Substack patriots heading into Independence Day.

I think this is a great point. People love a good upset and Uncle Donny is no longer the guy coming from behind to overturn the apple cart. He is the cart. He’s the rotten apple in the cart making every other apple moldy. He’s old. He’s moldy. He’s applesauce.

He is in the back seat of the clown clown, no wheels, sparks flying from the undercarriage, running on empty, pushed along by Musky and the Boys, with JDVP driving, although someone stole the wheel long again. The only reason it is now still moving is because they all went off the cliff and is now searching for the bottom/impact. At what point will folks notice and care enough to step away, call a halt!?

It’s isn’t pretty! But is it smells it sells! Good Hollywoodland…real estate sham.

I needed your wisdom and perspective today, as I have for 50 some years, listening to you while attending NDSU. Thank you for the light.

I find myself agreeing with you for the first time. In my lifetime I have seen Manhattan explode from RE development. Surely many millionaires and billionaires were made. The problem is those billionaires forced out the Villages and the Hells Kitchens of affordable housing. City government could have preserved NY but allowed uncontrolled development. Our Commie Candidate can’t really do anything about it.

Great points. We need new blood, with a fresh approach and ideas. It doesn't mean, however, that we can't be old and have the same vibrancy of spirit. As long as we're able, we should be front and center with the new crowd. Remember that it wasn't all young people in the recent protests - not by a long shot. They can't do it alone; neither can we.

Thank you Garrison. You are a peach and I love you. I agree with every word you write except I would strike Bernie from your exit list and you as well. You both still have a lot to give and we need to hear what you have to say. Bless you♥️🇺🇸

Pretty disgusting that you didn't vote. Families are dying in the Ukraine for the right to vote and other freedoms. Thousands like you put trump in office. You are an articulate bad boy. Don D

Pitch perfect once again except for you not voting. Always always always vote. That’s how come-from-be-hinders are winners in the end. Voting is our secret sauce. I am praying the Democrats take notice and start supporting our young people. But yes keep Bernie and YOU guiding us along this path. Wisdom is your secret sauce.

The NYC primary represents the generational chasm that currently exists-transition is hard, change is good. Outrage, however, is an appropriate response for all ages against all things Trump. We desperately need a voice of reason to emerge so we can coalesce all of our anger and frustration and throw out all the bums. Trump and his cronies could not have gotten this far without the meek complicity of the Republicans. Congress needs to have their guarantee of health care and retirement taken away-they also need to have their terms limited. Turn over guarantees fresh ideas-not the stagnant approach we are witness to and now victims of.

The same holds true for the Supreme Court. A lifetime appointment takes away one’s skin in the game and gives the recipient permission to indulge in their own bias. I would argue the best of us are not represented either in Congress or the Court, but may be the incentive for a new generation of candidate willing to take on the mess this ship is currently sailing in, grab the rudder and save us from ourselves.

Thank you for a July 4th message for me. Inspirational and real and makes me smile and feel good.

(I know you were just making a point…but I do not agree that Bernie and you should sit out now. Your writing and thoughts and kindness come through and are needed more than ever.

And Bernie is a touchstone for what is

good and needed and honest in our society. I hope you both are writing and active until … 😇

But really… I thought Cuomo had a major chance too. So I get why you did not vote THIS time in a Primary. So folks… lighten up and see the main point. And thank you.

That picture of those 6 officers (?) from ice tackling and roughing up the old Mexican landscaper made me sick! Then you find out he's got 3 sons who were in the marines!! Pathetic!!

Your news sources didn't bother to tell you that before he was tackled that old Mexican gardener attacked them with a weed wacker.

There's no evidence of that.

The official report, (which included eyewitness reports from employees at the restaurant he was working in front of) stated ICE agents approached him and he refused to identify himself. He then refused to be detained and took off running through a busy intersection. When agents got close to him he turned and swung the weed wacker near an agents head. He was then taken to the ground. Fact.

Provide a link to the evidence please, if it is fact. The ICE statements don't count as fact given the countless and constant lies coming out of the Trump administration. "They're eating the dogs! They're eating the cats." It's a disgusting and totally corrupt gang of liars and criminals.
