January 24, 2025 Dear Garrison:

I am also honoring a 50th anniversary, on January 31—- my 50th “Cancerversary” of an advanced Hodgkin’s Disease lymphoma diagnosis. In 1975, 3 days after my 22nd birthday, The encyclopedia said “fatal within a fear years…”

They don’t sell t-shirts for this, but if it provides encouragement to your readers, I’m pleased to share this.

Skoal from

John Erik, a Swedish-American in Denver whose relatives live in Minneapolis, not too far from Lake Woebegone.

Ok Garrison, here we go!!!

Yes, the toughest thing I have done in my life is quitting smoking. But I wanted to climb mountains, and I was going through a divorce, so that HAD to quit. So I did.

Well, maybe the divorce was tougher than quitting smoking. But that is where you cone in. You and PHC got me through some very dark times…..in NYS they assumed I was a deadbeat Dad and they treated me as such. Even though I payed, and payed…. will continue in a bit, the plane is taking off…

See, if I were as crass as a magaphile, I might reply with something like, “Zip it, tighty whitey righty!” But I don’t think that’s necessary.

What is necessary are both Republicans and Democrats working together for a better America , in person, to accomplish common goals.

Twitterbitching and nanny nanny boo booing by keyboard hero billionaires and their fans is about as useful as a stick in the eye.

Tell me sir, when has the left recently reached across the isle to work with those who are more conservatives. Give and take needs to go both ways and the outcome should always be the greatest good for the greatest number.

Border bill last year, that was sponsored by R and D and would’ve passed were it not for spineless Republicans kowtowing to Dumb Donny.

Stop pretending to be conservative, maga shares very little with actual conservatism. Locke, Goldwater, Reagan would disavow all of y’all’s behinds.

You "told him, sir" but Graham will now ignore you, because the MAGA MO is to confront you with a lie (in this case, that Democrats don't reach across the aisle, which they do far more often than Republicans do) and then go silent when you present them with any facts. They don't care about the truth. Migrants are criminals and they're eating "our" dogs and cats and killing "our" women and children. Democrats are communists. Trump won in 2020. Democrats steal elections. Trump attracts the biggest crowds in history. Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States. They haven't read the details yet so they can't comment. Blue states permit the execution of newborn babies. And so on and so forth, ad nauseam.

Or maybe reflective of what Tim Walz might term weird-as-hell ideas like alternative truths, the nonexistence of morality, the irrelevance of character and integrity, etc., etc. Let's also not forget the conspiracy theorists and the anti-science crowd--they have "view points" as well, as do the character assassins! Wait a second, did I save the white supremacists for last?

I didn't put that forth, Graham. Your cult leader did. Did he also come up with the nonsense you wrote about fruits and gnomes? Are you taking steps to protect your pets from dark-skinned people who want to eat them?

You're an anchor of common sense.

And regarding the person who said “I listened to you during a hard time in my life so thank you,” my story is that I was driving at night through the wilds of southwestern Virginia, 300 miles from home. It was a Saturday night and APHC came on the radio. I had been feeling isolated and a bit lonely, but your old-style variety show made me feel warm and connected. That's when I truly got hooked. Thank you.

Well, kid. Let's take our 'diversity' into our 'reclusivity,' where we can live in 'exclusivity' for 'perpetuity' without sacrifcing our 'integrity' for all 'eternity.' Amen.

A really great essay about the unease that so many people are probably feeling right now. I saw that the great Orange man demanded an apology from the Episcopal bishop who asked him to "have mercy" on those people he wants to eliminate from American life. Extraordinary! To be offended by a priest who asks for your empathy. What a crass country this has become.

Let us know when grocery prices come down, Frank. And what about the "Fake News" about Trump putting a stop to the war in Ukraine before he took office? Has your pet been barbecued and devoured by Haitians yet? Trump's hand was not on that Bible. Republicans tend to take offense if people don't wear flag pins on their lapels, so isn't it appropriate to make the observation about the lack of contact between that little hand and that Bible? It's not like Becky was demanding to see his long-form birth certificate...

"Wonder why" you ask. A few possibilities: it wasn't one of his own home shopping network Bibles and he saw no money in it? It might have caught fire if his hand had touched it, filling the entire room with the smell of sulfur? It didn't have his name on it, so he didn't care about it? He'd rather swear on that book that his mentor Roy Cohn gave him, but it might cause moneybag-man to reflexively raise that white supremacist arm again?

Well, I am with you 100 percent, Mr. Keillor, and a bit behind you in years but just as willing as you are to point out to anyone who’ll listen that the Emperor has no clothes (and it’s not a pretty sight!). I’ll be happy to march by your side down the streets of Manhattan and recite poetry and limericks or get people to sing—and maybe our respective spouses can provide viola accompaniment. The point for me is not to accept the madness as normal or acceptable, because it’s not. Any country that legislates cruelty and intolerance is doomed to end up on the wrong side of history. Only 1,451 days or so to go before it’s over. What if we were to make a point of doing something generous and kind, something that celebrates honesty and compassion, something that protects the vulnerable and promotes a belly-laugh every single one of those days? It’s up to the poets, artists and comedians now, the kind-hearted and modest folks everywhere who aspire to be judged, in the end, as good.🙏
