Podcast #32 — What a good life. I have no complaints. I was good and unhappy when I was young but I’m over it. And I do believe that the truth is marching on.
Those with special needs, mobility issues and wheelchair users should always board first. Do not pass judgement on those less fortunate than you. Remember the golden rule.
I'm one of those "fat cats" who, because of bad knees, coughs up the bucks to be seated in business or first class. I don't mind that babies are allowed on first, and those with various special needs and those in other categories follow close behind, but this has reached a state of ridiculousness. What's next, those with their ferrets that give comfort to their owners are given priority? Enough, I say!
I am a millennial who sees the beauty and value in communal singing! I hope my generation will come around. I love Jacob Collier and the way he can turn a whole audience into a choir. He's a great modern musician and I'd love his superpower to bring people together in song. Thank you for your reflections Mr. Keillor.
I have my own airport experience with one of these groups. My brother in law knows that the pressure of being in an airport defines my anxiety. I understand that driving or traveling long distances causes insecurity for me. I never wished to be treated differently. He told the TSA Agent that I was a nervous type. I had my own wheelchair transporting me. It felt ridiculous yet it was touching too. The idea of the unknown pushes me into a netherworld. Thanks GK. Those who serve us and protect us should be first while those who deceive and manipulate us, the bottom of the crowd.
I feel the same way about the deep sense of a transcendent unity generated by singing songs with lyrics known by a large group of strangers. I have been at events where most attendees mumbled heir way through The Star Spangled Banner or America the Beautiful and it made me cry.
Thank you for talking about this bit of wonderfulness that has sadly slipped from our culture.
Hey Garrison, this issue has been overcome for Betty and me now for almost three years. She became ill with lymphoma a few years ago and her doctor gave her a medical pass as I will call it, one of those blue do dads that we hang on the rear-view mirror, so we park in the "sick lamb and lazy zone" at stores. After the lymphoma was Kemo'd away she contracted neuropathy and that made for less ability in walking without help. She uses a cane sometimes and my arm other times. We board airplanes first, almost always when the agent announces, "those who need extra time boarding". At 82 and dipping into our saved hears earned wealth we always fly first class and sit in row one seats A&B. You should try it. Sincerely rr
Rather than giving the above groups priority boarding, just give them first class status. Can't be announced ahead, and so no one knows if they will be in an exceptional group or not until they check in, but it should cost the airline nothing, but expanding the first class seating a bit and it would be like wnnning a lottery without having to buy a ticket.

Not so much at the same time...the pilot needs to view the runway he's landing on and you need and you walking about charging up your friends...

Us 2nd grade teachers need a place in the line. No, it’s okay. We’re tough.
