Garrison,

Interesting comments. A few random comments of my own come to mind, so here goes. On July the fourth, if we have beer and barbeque, who would want to listen to some hot air from a politician? People come to such gatherings for the beer and food, fireworks, fellowship of friends and family, etc.

The American Revolution shows just how little things in this country have changed. Some knowledgeable people say that the American Revolution occurred because the British Parliament wanted the colonies to help pay for the cost of the colonies' defense against the French during the French and Indian War. That is why Parliament put on the stamp tax, tea tax, etc. to pay for soldiers. And Parliament was pushing the taxes much more than King George III was.

George Washington and other well-to-do "leaders" led the revolution to avoid paying taxes.

Wealthy people are still doing everything possible to avoid paying taxes. Many things don't really change that much.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth and hope that Garrison's upcoming programs are a great success.

Kindest regards to all.

Something else that comes to mind about July the fourth, in many of the cities and towns around here, they in pre-covid days had large gatherings in parks and public areas for the general public. Families and groups could reserve pavilions and areas to grill (grilling is not barbequing) hamburgers or hot dogs, drink beer, and, along about nightfall, watch firework displays sponsored by the city.

Now a days I would think twice about going to such a gathering. In these large gathering where many people are drinking alcohol, there are also many people who are carrying guns. In that setting, a cross word can result in gun fire. All change is not for the better.
