Podcast 67: A dear friend once said to me out of the blue, “Today it will have been forty years since the last time I vomited,” and I said to her, “How do you celebrate an anniversary like that?”
Another wonderful post, Garrison. Thank you! You would have made a truly great small-town teacher, but we're so thankful you choose the path you did and were able to reach so many more of us with your kindness, wit and wisdom. Agreed, it is never too late to learn. Glad to hear the oysters on the half shell experience wasn't any worse than it was!
I love and trust that Tim Walz's days as a high school teacher have influenced all he's done since, and will continue to do so when he's takes office in Washington with Kamala Harris. He is a straight shooter, like you. A good man who will remember who is really is and what is really important. It is so nice to have confidence and hope that things will be ok once they get in. :)
And like a good teacher and long-time if not native Minnesotan, he’ll listen and provide sound feedback.
And hot dishes like his tater tot casserole at the mansion. It’ll be even better here in DC than it was with the Obamas and Joe & Jill Biden. Real people.
I can't afford a double quarter pounder from McDonald's. It's too expensive for what you get.
I do often order a eight-ounce sirloin cheeseburger in a finer restaurant, but the burger is almost always made from quality beef. The restaurant usually has neat, attentive younger persons to write your order on a little pad and bring your burger to you in (not a fast but usually) timely manner. The menu lists about a dozen different kinds of cheese selections with which to top your burger. You can (and must, I think) designate how cooked you'd wish your burger. Since restaurants like this are usually big on fresh, quality ingredients, I toss fear aside and say "Oh--rare, please..." A rare burger from a fast food restaurant would probably kill you, I think. At the very least, you might be dashing to the fast food eatery's rest room in short order. Not me, though. I gave up vomiting in 1989. I won't bore you with the details.
Just for fun: the Fillet-O-Fish was in competition with the Hula Burger which consisted of a pineapple slice topped with cheese on a bun. They were both meant as alternatives for Catholics who abstained from eating meat on Fridays. Customers overwhelmingly preferred the fillet to the pineapple and the Hula Burger was dropped from the menu.
Such wisdom 😊

Another bunch of refreshing words (Thanks, Garrison) that makes the day and evening a bit more modestly sane.

How to celebrate. Eat a McDonald burger, watch the news, then stick your finger down your throat.
You are so right! And. The fish sandwich at McDonald's is good too.

Aren’t they?
I'll take your food recommendation to heart, as I take most of your opinions.
