Yes, 'Our Town' is my favorite play. And when Emily asks if any humans 'realize life while they live it?--every, every minute?' the Stage Manager first says no, then thinks for a moment and says, 'The saints and poets, maybe--they do some.' Stay safe, Garrison!
From a bird feeder and watcher in my backyard. Have been following your writing for some time. I was shocked by your disparaging comments about binoculars turned toward the natural world. Surely there is room in this wonderful world of ours for both observing feathered creatures as well as those troublesome ones on city streets!
Have been reading Writer’s Almanac for some time, mostly with great pleasure. But your recent disparaging comments about the use of binoculars for bird watching dismayed me. Surely, observing miscreants on city streets with binoculars would be worth while. But I would argue that there is room for both and that both endeavors would be in the interest of a more civil society!
Thanks, Garrison. And a toast to your health!
