Mr. Keillor waxes increasingly eloquent by the year. In a time of unbridled cynicism and general societal crudeness perhaps akin to the late Roman Empire one can only admire the wit, modesty and penetrating insight of a perceptive mind in an increasingly course - largely due to its bought and paid for leaders - society and culture.
Thank heavens we have some one not bought off who still speaks the truth with honesty and brief eloquence.
These days I take joy wherever I can find it. I often waste time on Facebook Reels and when the young man with the curly hair who does "We Rate Dogs" showing adorable pups sometimes hilarious, sometimes heroic, sometimes being rescued by heroics, I am filled with joy. Your column is another source, Garrison, partly for the uplift and smile you always offer and partly for your not letting up on the tragedy that is the tRump administration afflicting our nation. Keep it up, please. Your gentle voice is needed and greatly appreciated.
OK, since you asked, let’s look into “telling the truth”:
The top seven donors to the 2024 political cycle together gave almost a billion dollars to Republicans, with Elon Musk alone contributing more than $291 million.
Democratic donors don’t kick in until number eight on the list, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, who gave slightly more than $64 million to Democrats.
George Soros, the Republicans’ supervillain, didn’t make the top 25.
(In short, don’t ask questions you may not want to know the answer to.
Or, as a friendly suggestion: As we all know, sources like Fox “News” and FaceBook posts from your buddies have well-established histories of spreading inaccuracies and lies. In situations like this where you choose to simply parrot a claim they’ve made, perhaps it would be helpful to consider looking into the actual facts before allowing yourself to attach you name to something as silly as this.)
Thanks for looking into that. I don't operate with the same immorality you do. I want to know all the answers. How much did Harris spend ? (How about that Oprah?) and how much did Trump spend ? Total transparency hasn't turned out to be the Democrats friend. And now better yet - with all that money spent how much damage did Democrats do to the United States with the importation of illegals? How many dead Americans? As recent as yesterday...a stabbing murder? Because of Biden how many boys dressed as girls best up real girls on the sports court?
It was not the money spent to elect someone; it was the fact that anyone could spend that amount of money to subvert the election. We need to get "big, dark money" out of the election and return it to the people.
Since you seem to believe that you are the one who is in charge of demanding answers to your questions, coming as they must from the "lawyers" at Disingenuous, Dishonest & Troublemaking, LLC (one of the cowardly lyin' law firms that cowered to thump's mob extortion tactics; let the names of those law firms be written in granite on Mount Infinity Disgrace), I would like to "retrieve my time" and ask YOU a very, very simple question: How much is it costing all of us goobers out here trying to rub a couple of nickles together to ferry Thump's Large-esse back and forth on OUR Air Force One with all of OUR bought and paid for Secret Service and all the food and drink and fuel and whatever else His Lowness requires to maintain his delusions? How much because, bud, he's going back and forth all the time; most recently he made the trip to Mar-A-Lego to play Saudi Arabia golf while there were public events concerning the military members killed in Lithuania, something that normal - and decent - Presidents prior to this indecent one - would have been part of. Not this one. Too busy fulfilling a perfect headline heard today: U.S. President Crashes the Economy.
Happy? (That's another question for you. Let me repeat it: Happy?) Does a sadistic, insane, cruel, incompetent, monumentally destructive, un-American, anti-American traitor make you happy? (Three questions, trifecta. I yield to you now. Regale us with your tales of how great things are now and how bad they were then.)
You know what? I just read in a Pennsylvania newspaper of the arrest of two men, American men born and bred, who were arrested for a slew of HORRIFIC crimes. That's just one city in one state. Go to any newspaper in almost any town/city/village in the U.S. on any given day and you will learn of American citizens who are fully and horribly capable of committing their own monstrous crimes, with no need to, as you put it, "import" anyone from any other country. Homegrown crime. Isn't that the kind that thump prefers? Can't he just put a tariff on "imported" criminals? He is surely overlooking one of his huckster-con-man schemes by not doing that. Maybe Laura Looner can clue him in to that. Or maybe sell some of his "gold" junk to people who are arrested, pocket the $$, and give out one of his pardons. Given recidivism rates of U.S. born criminals, he could really make a mint. You seem to be his pal; send him a note.
You know what else? Take a look in the fields and orchards around the country or the hotel/motel housekeeping personnel? See any of those "monsters" that MAGA seems to see everywhere? They are PEOPLE working - and Americans have been the beneficiaries of their work. No more. Or no mas, I should say. I'm sure that thump and his crime family will do that work for you.
Did you know that Corey Booker responded to a person on "Twitter" (quelle stupid name; I don't tweet. I'm not a bird.) or X (quelle unloving name to put on a child) whose elderly New Jersey father was having trouble getting his driveway shoveled? Booker said "where does he live; I'll do it." And he did.
Now I know that thump shovels snow all the time, right? And he does it for his elderly (well, HE'S elderly) neighbors, right? Such a kind, kind person.
You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to spread your lies here, and wherever else you spread them. Go away, you racist, you conspiracy theorist, you moronic bigot. Am I rude? It's way past time American patriots stopped humoring dangerous morons like you. I repeat: go away!
It's sobering, terrifying, paralyzing and energizing all at once. It's too much! I already feel time's winged chariot nipping at my heels all the time.
Time, time, time, see what's become of me, while I searched around for my possibilities....
(I hope the musical reference is still known to readers here, otherwise it's just odd.... )
Garrison, I like the idea of you walking to and from church. I live about 1 mile from my church and I used to walk there. Don't anymore...in part because of balance issues OR I have my mandolin with me for playing at the beginning of services with our excellent pianist/choir director. Sometimes we start w. a hymn from one of the Methodist hymnals (we have now 3 of them); or sometimes I'll play a tune I learned fr. recordings of Peter Ostroushko, from A Prairie Home Companion days. (eg. Medicine Bow; Heart of the Heartland. I really love being able to play some tuneful waltz or a hymn I like.
I always smile when I read your missives…quite a gift! I’m glad you have written much of this down, now in many forms, because I don’t go to church…I can not get past the hurt and harm that these folks have caused, not quite woke yet. Roman’s still too much for me…I need a female, a ‘her’ native spirit who cares and loves freely, no more ‘puck in’ puritanical pipsqueaks. You know, the people everyone hated, who were kicked out, frozen they killed half of their followers because they didn’t now what they were doing, though they thought praying to god would feed them…you have to grow the food, sorry! Late to the lesson but still trying to make us not swear when we need, or have sex because it’s wonderful! Or dance…
And this is pretty much who is in charge now!
Feckless, fearful, fools…Putin along in their own poo…cheating at golf.
Love this!
Love this too!!

I’m grateful for you GK!
I enjoy being 81.
Well said.
I’m only 76, but I want to be just like you when I grow up!
78 but ditto o/wise.
Amazingly good work!👍 Thank you!

June 21 may mark the end of an era, Garrison, but you are not done, not by a long shot!
You remain relevant and very, very necessary, now more than ever!
How much did Soros pump into Wisconsin for the win? If you enter the arena, tell the truth.

Geez Louise. What has happened to this country.
Perfectly said!

U silly silly naive MAGA. U need help🥲🥲🥲
Go away
Beautifully written. You always make me feel grateful for life, even in troubled times.
James Taylor sang it, but you live it: "The Secret of Life Is Enjoying The Passage of Time."
And a Buddhist corollary:
The problem is, thinking we have time.
It's sobering, terrifying, paralyzing and energizing all at once. It's too much! I already feel time's winged chariot nipping at my heels all the time.
Time, time, time, see what's become of me, while I searched around for my possibilities....
