Tom - Apparently you live in St. Paul and can wander into local bookstores any time you like! I made it once to St. Paul - to a wonderful "Out-of-State" APHer's audience weekend. It was HEAVEN for those of us who are scattered across the continent - I think we even had a few attendees from Canada and the United Kingdom in Europe. We ate together, where we were served in the courtyard outside the theater, and took a scenic tour boat of the Mississippi waterfront. Best of all, Our Gracious Host invited us into his home during the day on Saturday! I never can forget the thrill of sitting in the very chair he writes from! I leaned back and scanned the titles of the books that were in reaching distance on the wall shelf! Then, in shifts, we got to sit by the fireplace, and to go down to the "back yard" - which happened to have a magnificent view of the Mississippi River. It seemed as if their family may have had "Riverfront Property" all the way down to the river bank. It was so steep, though, it was just as good that it was kept in shrubbery! And, yes! We went to the Bookstore, too!
I wouldn't be surprised if there are a small army of us who can say "Yes! We were at The Fount of Every Blessing!" - Prairie Home Companion-wise! What a thrill!
I remember when you opened your book store on the southwest corner of Dale and Selby in St. Paul. You had some fine books worth reading and scanning your shelves was worth doing. Back then you still lived here, but now you live in NYC where costs of living are egregious. A bookstore won't cover your bills anywhere.
Now it seems you've got a more "Amazon" structure with "you can buy all your Keillor stuff here." I last saw you in St. Paul years ago. It was a fine show, perfectly focused on your fine talents and those invited.
Don't let too many things get on your plates Mr. K. They can cause too many things in your head in order to pay those NYC bills.
