David Hoekema is correct, of course, that the central, true meaning of what it is to be “Woke” represents an honorable, worthy set of principles that should be --and need to be-- stood up for.

But it is also true that those who take those principles seriously, also need to take seriously the responsibility of defending the meaning of the term when hateful nonsense is put forward in its name by those who would attempt to hide behind the claim of such an honorable set of beliefs.

(The same can also be said, for example, of the equally honorable names of, say, Patriotism. Or, for that matter Christian.)

Would weep when she thought of her youth

Recollecting the chances

She had at school dances

And once in a telephone booth.
