I got Bs in my only 2 English courses (composition) so I am not so good a writer. I can demonstrate that we would not have this country without what would now be called 3 English majors. Before I try to write does Mr Keillor see these comments?
You are nigh always on your "Go with the Show." It's your calling and, yes, we're all darn glad for it.
But we two being Octo-Guys, why mention Paul McCartney and/or Mick Jagger, who brought us an era of yellow submarines and doped-up music plus a toe-tapping , ear banging "HonkyTonk Woman."
"Octogenarian Guys" grew up with Artie Shaw and Ella, and then, Simon and Garfunkel, whose harmony gave us "Bridge Over Troubled Water," a hymn of "Reaching Out" which God knows we need.
My kids played Mick and Hendrix so loud our family hearing is still impaired. I'm still looking for Paul Simons's soul-touching:
"And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
Then the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
In tenement halls"
And whispered in the sound of silence."
We could use more of it. Take Paul's lyrics to the nearby zoo:
You are a delight, Mr. Keillor. Your answers both amuse and touch my heart. I’m always happy when someone writes you with a compliment like the 102 year old mother who loves your work. You touch so many lives. You’re truly a blessing.
Regarding having a master plan for college and life, remember the observation of the notable philosopher Mike Tyson: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
There is a comment above regarding the closing of mental institutions in California . I have no information on that but there are a couple of eye opening situations near Boston about sixty years ago . One is documented in The State Boys Rebellion by Michael D'Antonio .
The other is a film which was shot inside the Bridgewater State Hospital ; the title of the film is the Titticut Follies . Both of these instigated many changes for the better .
well sir, always enjoy reading you, but since you recently put the kibosh on discussing one's knee replacement surgery, I'm left with a paucity of topics!
Thanks for this. Most people who correspond with you don't put me to slee...
My sweetie and I are looking forward to seeing you in Peekskill. We had tickets for October, but were rescheduled. Can't wait!

"It's a light and tumble journey
From the East Side to the park
Just a fine and fancy ramble
To the zoo
But you can take the crosstown bus
If it's raining or it's cold
And the animals will love it if you do
If you do, now...."

I also endorse Icebug shoes. They’re good on snow, ice and bare concrete. Absolutely life-changing for winter time
