Mr.Keillor,I have never felt you were anti Catholic ,as a past member I think holding those collective feet to the heat is needed. Humor can sound like criticism but sometimes it’s just pointing to the ridiculous.

As for Mr. Dickens, much can be learned and laughed at:

Sorry about my "Late Post to our Helpful Host"….Mr. Hull is right about Mr. Dickens. Charles Dickens is a fiction author of our epochs.

Here’s two quotes:

1. “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” And there your own stories are....

2. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us ..”

Timeless quotes came from Dickens, and all worth the read. At St. Thomas College, back in my day, many of us took a 301 Victorian Lit from an instructor who often was not quite yet sober, but the course was one of my finest ever. He made the lectures on Dickens so real it felt like we were there and eschewed our taking a loaf of bread, lest we be hanged. We had Dickens insights all over the place, and I’ll not rob you of them. Suffice it to say, short of hanging, Dickens’ stories are nigh our own and we should learn from it.

All the best to all of us,

TomKing

Garrison: Take care when you're in Colorado, esp. Grand Junction, which I know is within the Congressional district of the unfortunate Lauren Boebert, about whom -- 'nuiff said. JTA, Green Valley, Arizona.

Whoa, Garrison! What in the Dickens got into old Tom??! I'm guessing he got a batch of cad-plated pipe screens and was visited by the Ghost of Dickens' Past....and given the task of writing "Dickens for Dummies", or at least becoming Chuck's publicist in the New Millennium. He's definitely the man for the job! I Googled the book, and there are quite a few variations on the theme, but I'm sure none measure up to his standards. Perhaps you could help with his editing, and skip reading any of the actual books....?? Roger Krenkler L.A.

Just as air travel has made the world smaller, the internet has made publishing humorous columns like yours, more fraught.

Perhaps it's best if you steer clear of commentary about the sartorial choices of Roman Catholic priests or opinions on what does and doesn't constitute a great colonial power. There are now far too many experts listening in who, often correctly, chasten you, but who don't understand the concept of setting aside fussy facts and details to just let art flow over them.

Just have to smile when some write comments on religions. I was raised Catholic and went to parochial schools for 12 years. No longer do I attend church and haven’t for over 30 years. Some of the most beautiful, spiritual experiences have been had at your shows, Mr. Keillor. I’ve written before about your genuineness and compassion, and you can feel it when we sing together. Your kindness and humanity spreads more love than religion can as far as I am concerned. You bring people together and touch so many hearts with your stories and insight into what makes people do what they do.

Let’s not judge anyone about what religion they are or whether they have even read Dickens or not.

Is it really that important? I often think that when we are on our deathbeds, we will look back and think about all of the things we thought were so important.

Said Billy Rose to Sally Rand.

"Why don't you dance without your fan."

So Sally danced without her fan,

and Billy Rose and Sally Rand.

Please, please think young, Mr. Keillor! A streamed version of Prairie Home (perhaps including interviews with people like Maria or Will Muskens) is not just a brilliant idea, it's a stroke of genius (imho, of course 😉). I sure hope it bears fruit. I bet your online PHC would be a lot more fun and  interesting than what a lot of these whippersnapper "influencers" on YouTube have to offer. Best wishes to you and yours.
