Excellent. Completely, totally excellent. I always say that Jim (aka Gym) Jordan should be required to perform his Inquisitions wearing his old wrestling leotard, size small.

Of Members of the House in the Hall

Who is the most contemptible of all?

There are just far too many to call

Only one, but each has the gall

To vie to Be Best at Being the Worst,

Yet Gym Jordan, whining wrestler

Contends for the prize of the most despised.

The truth remains sad and your column remains hilariously spot on.

GK,

I GET SO TIRED OF THE POLI-PICKING. TWAIN’S CONTEMPORATE, CHESTERTON, SAID, “NEVER TEAR DOWN A FENCE UNTIL YOU KNOW WHY IT WAS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE…”

YOU AND I, BOTH AT 80+, SHOULD STAY FAR AWAY FROM FENCES COMPLETELY….IF THEY ENCIRCLE US, WE’RE CAUGHT UP LIKE CRITTERS OF ALL SORTS AND WITH ALL THEIR POOP, TOO.

MY ADVICE: AVOID POLITICAL FENCES AND THE PUERILE CRITTERS INSIDE, AND AT ALL COSTS….TK

Proving we need fewer pundits and more humorists. Regrettably, that congress has become an obscene joke is no joke.

I’ll just mention that if you really want to understand what was going on here, I’d suggest holding your nose and thumbing through the last couple of days of “product” from the usual suspects (e.g. Fox “News”; the output of “Forbes Breaking News” was particularly revealing; etc.)

It becomes really clear that the purpose of this dog-show was as an opportunity for these folks to build up a collection of sound-bites to show “the people back home” how tough they are when dealing with [fill-in-your-favorite-fringe-conspiracy here].

The twitter/social-media feeds of these bottom-feeders have been overflowing with this sewage.

The last place I ever wanted to see a political screed. We’re fully over the cliff now. Sad times.

A long time follower of GK is sad to see his age has taken him down the political swamp path. RIP to a great mind.

If H.L. Mencken were alive today, he'd be rolling over in his grave. Your apt quote is only one of many erudite observations he made during a life of social criticism which never failed to be on the money. Twain was equally in the same camp although ranging a little further afield than just the dopiness of the American public and its politicians. I hate to admit being born and raised in Ohio although a bit north of the Jim Jordan territory. His ''little man" complex shows through in every endeavor. Fortunately, at least for now, it appears that the law remains in place and his rapid fire rants only serve to be a useless waste of time. Unrelated but a Twainism that has always tickled my musical sensitivities and maybe yours - "Wagner's music is a lot better then it sounds."
