Tears in my ears and gratitude in the nude and guess what my going-away gift from the hospital was –– a beautiful full-color photograph of me, unconscious, chest wide open, the surgeon's hands. (I didn't dare look; my sister told me.) Now where in the apartment am I supposed to hang that?
Beautiful truth, Garrison. Thank you for putting it into words. I was very recently relieved of all my reproductive plumbing and was cared for exactly like this. I hope your recovery is steady and uneventful. 🙏
plumbing is that which makes us valuable; whether it be reproductive or relief prone. Would that we all experience the agitation either may induce. Would that we all answer this call to create a soothing answer for future generation for such agitation. Truth comes in many mediums. More likely, however, it arrives after agitations.
May we all have the ability to recognize these truths in our quotidien experiences of life.
I am so grateful that you have done so well . I love your description of the ministering angels...after being in the hospital a number of times I recognize these people and am so grateful for them.
Like so many others, I am glad you getting such kind, compassionate care from these healing people. And I appreciate the insights into the darker, angrier, accusatory aspect of our Protestant heritage. Truly those caring women and men are acting like Jesus might have wished (unlike others, I won’t presume to speak for him).
And many if not most of the these angelic souls are scientists at heart and thus atheists by reason. Living an ethical and useful life is entirely unrelated to religious belief.
We, all your fans, are so happy you are on the mend. This was such a wonderful appreciation of those people that do what the rest of us don't want to do. They certainly are unreplaceable. God bless and stay well, Garrison.
Lovely thoughts in response to a series of incisions! At 77, I had a recent non-incisionary encounter at a nearby hospital. As I told my poker buddies, I had a series of lovely and polite nurses and nurse techs. but they alll evaporated before I coul;d snag a phone # or email access. Alas.
We are surrounded by angels and miracle workers every day. We only need to take the time to look, listen and see them to realize how blessed we are. Get better so we can continue to marvel in the miracle that is you.
Amen to your words about the truly fine, mostly young, folks in the hospital. I was and am grateful for their kindness and skills during and after recent knee replacement surgery a Duke Raleigh
Hospital. They truly want to help people
and do a great job. All colors, genders, nationalities, etc. These folks give me hope for our nation.
The perfectly splendid news we were all waiting for! It was like when the astronauts descend from earth orbit, in a fiery blaze of ions that makes radio transmission impossible, and though confident in a happy landing, we on the ground nervously await, and after an excruciatingly long moment we hear those comforting words, “Houston, GK here … “. And your unparalleled humor came through unscathed and unscorched!
So glad it’s over and you are on the healing side. I always prefer that side
You had me at ..."so I became a lie-down comedian..." Wishing you a speedy recovery!
proFOUND!!
Fears in my eyes and gratitude in my heart for those lovely people who give their lives to caring for others.

At least it wasn’t a selfie with them holding your heart next to their face! 😁
Sorry that was a bad joke🫣

How great to hear from you today. We have been wondering about you these last few days. The journey back begins!

I am grateful for them and I also recognize that I don't have an ounce of angelicism in me. I simply don't.

They're not allowed to pass out contact information, alas...
One of the smartest moves in my life is marrying a nurse! Glad all is well with you!
I’m so happy your surgery went well! We need you around for another 80 years.
I agree with you about the nursing profession and Mayo Clinic. I was there last year for back surgery.
Prayers for continued recovery

Best wishes for a smooth recovery. And thanks for the laughs along the way.
