Podcast 100 - ...two solid minutes of her hysterical laughter as she watched water splashing on her father’s lap so that it appeared he had wet his pants.
Your podcast was wonderful to hear. You are THE entertainer and I am so happy to hear and read your stories. NO ONE can tell it like you. Thats why we're fans in great numbers. Hearing you daughter's laughter makes you happy and you telling us about it delights us as well. Thanks for entertaining us.👌
as long as you don't crave Coke, the killer drink. (You don't want to know the stats on children dying in Europe, next to Coke facilities, due to the poisons involved). Keep laughing, Keillor, so that we can too.
Nazi nursing homes. Oh yes !!! Too many of my relatives and elder friends have gone there with the worst experiences in the "homes" one particular lady had to sign a paper stating they would no he responsible for injuries, listing fire, verbal abuse exposure to covid, and other viruses, choking, and on and on. So far she has had covid 3 times and been over medicated to the point of falling, experienced head and shoulder injuries and left on the floor until another resident called an ambulance. Given the wrong medication with complications. Had her posessions stolen ....I could write a book. Sorry to hit on that remark but it struck a nerve. Gartison, don't ever go to one! They look lovely on the outside but they are are hell on the inside.
That's awful, and every old person's (and hopefully guilt-ridden child) nightmare. I'm so very sorry this is happening to your friend!! and surely wish she could be somewhere better!
I stoped working with SNF as I felt contributory to elder abuse. The smell, indifferent personnel and food that an animal shelter would reject. The Medicaid payment schedule would not afford enough quality staff nor a food service contract that would allow the quality of care and dignity that seniors deserve. The greatest generation is offered the short end of this stick
Well me Boyo, dinna ye have a pint or two of Guinness while you were there? There's a lovely local Irish brew called Smithwick Red Ale, which when topped off with just a little Guinness makes for a lovely drink to go along with some of the best Fish and Chips you'll likely find anywhere. If you haven't tried these, in Ireland, you definitely need to go back and do just that.
In eastern MA we call carbonated beverages “tonic”. When my husband, who is from PA, went to graduate school at Harvard, he couldn’t understand the cleaning lady in his dorm when she asked what he wanted her to do with the tonic bottles she found in the wastebasket.
Yes, I found myself depressed each month when SNF rounds were due. There was one that was owner managed that was not too bad, but when an employee administrator took over it went the way of the herd. Some residential centers are not too bad but looking at Covid outbreak data one can see they are not carful enough. The State Veteran facilities are better as the Secretary of veterans affairs in California is a physician.
GK. I Gave up orange pop long ago. Better health? Now I’ve just got the Orange Guy to worry about. Just saying.

Thank you Garrison! As usual, you supplied a perfect bit of prose music!
